What is MitraClip?
The MitraClip is an FDA-approved device used to treat severe mitral regurgitation. This condition occurs when the heart’s mitral valve does not close completely, allowing blood to leak backward into the heart.
During a minimally invasive procedure, the MitraClip is guided through the femoral vein to the heart’s left atrium. There, the clip attaches to the leaflets of the mitral valve, where it tightens the valve’s seal. The blood flow on both sides of the clip is then regulated while reducing regurgitation into the heart.
