Marvin Altman Fitness Center-Fort Smith Celebrates 35 Years

FORT SMITH, Ark. – This month, Marvin Altman Fitness Center inside Baptist Health-Fort Smith celebrates its 35th anniversary. 

In honor of the anniversary, the fitness center will offer one-month memberships at a discounted rate of $35 on Wednesday March 22, for those interested in joining. Refreshments will also be available that day. 

The gym opened to the public in 1988 and was named after Marvin Altman who served as the president of Sparks Hospital in the late 1970s. Over the years, the fitness center has seen numerous improvements and most recently installed new exercise and weight training equipment, as well as updated the flooring, locker rooms and whirlpools. 

Marvin Altman Fitness Center offers a wide variety of fitness classes including yoga, barre, boot camp, pilates and cardio dance. Its newest class, POUND™, combines drumming to music with cardio and strength training. The fitness center offers an indoor track and an indoor lap pool. Memberships are available for families and include designated family swim times in the pool. Ages 10 and up are allowed to participate on the fitness floor. 

The fitness center also features a range of desirable amenities, including locker rooms stocked with towels, soap, conditioner and hair dryers, as well as a saunas and whirlpools in each locker room.
