BHealthy Exercise – CrossFit | February 2025

While exercise is integral to your overall health, fitness regimens can often become monotonous and boring. If you’re looking for a high-intensity, varied workout, CrossFit could be right for you. The immersive fitness program is known for enhancing lifestyles. From its constantly changing workouts to its strong sense of community, CrossFit can help you live your most amazing life.

What is CrossFit?

CrossFit is an intense, demanding group program built to improve fitness and health. It consists of “constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensity.” The exercises you do in CrossFit are heightened versions of how you might move or need to move in everyday life.

As its name suggests, CrossFit is a cross between different sports and exercises, including aspects of gymnastics, weightlifting, running, rowing and more. A typical CrossFit workout operates as a competition, complete with a running clock, rules and a whiteboard to record scores. This group activity allows you to learn from others, receive encouragement and push yourself. It’s also a great way to build relationships with fellow CrossFitters.

Benefits

Universally beneficial for anyone from beginners to star athletes, CrossFit has much to offer, including:

  • Improved heart health
  • Increased joint mobility
  • Increased strength
  • Improved flexibility
  • Improved balance
  • Better coordination
  • Increased speed
  • Increased stamina

Get Started

CrossFit has never been more accessible. There are over 13,000 licensed CrossFit affiliates worldwide, with more than sixty gyms — or “boxes”— here in Arkansas. At each box, you can find credentialed CrossFit trainers who will coach you through the program. Trainers provide you with programming, equipment, motivation and most importantly, their expertise.

Although the CrossFit program never changes, workouts can be modified by adjusting the length, number of reps, loads, distances or movements. Trainers can scale workouts to fit your skills and needs. They can also ensure you are using proper form, which maximizes your results and prevents injury. In addition to listening to your trainer, you should also listen to your body. The point of CrossFit is to challenge yourself, testing even the best athletes. If your body tells you to take your workout down a notch, do it. You have to know your limits. However, the more you do CrossFit, the more your boundaries will expand.

The key to exercising regularly is finding workouts that are challenging but rewarding. Get more tips on how exercise can keep you amazing.
