GURDON, Ark. – Learn more about diabetes and its risk factors during a free Diabetes Empowerment Education Program (DEEP) class on Monday, Aug. 19, at 5 p.m. at the Gurdon Food Pantry, 106 Walnut St. in Gurdon.
The two-hour class, hosted by Baptist Health Medical Center-Arkadelphia, invites residents to learn how to count carbohydrates and read food labels. Participants will receive information on how to manage their health through nutrition and physical activity, and learn techniques to reduce stress and cope.

Prior to the class, Baptist Health will be checking blood pressure and blood sugar from noon to 1:30 p.m. for seniors and from 2 to 4 p.m. for the general public at the food pantry.
DEEP classes are also offered by Baptist Health in Bryant, Benton, Lonoke, Little Rock, North Little Rock, Sherwood, Maumelle and Conway.
