Baptist Health-Fort Smith Emergency Medicine Fellowship

Baptist Health is Arkansas’ most comprehensive healthcare organization and the state’s largest locally owned and managed, not-for-profit, faith-based healthcare organization. Baptist Health-Fort Smith, established in 1887, holds the distinction of being the oldest hospital in Arkansas, signifying its deep roots in the community.

As one of the busiest emergency departments in the state, Baptist Health-Fort Smith’s experienced physicians and staff care for approximately 60,000 patients a year from western Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma.

The ED offers 42 private rooms where fellows receive training in trauma care, management of acute cardiac patients (STEMI and others) as well as comprehensive management of stroke patients. Baptist Health-Fort Smith’s Emergency Department offers four positions each academic year.

The curriculum includes:

• 12 Months of Community Emergency Medicine
• Sim Lab Experience
• Cadaver Lab Experience
• EMS Experience

Prerequisites:

• Have an unrestricted Arkansas License to practice medicine or be eligible for a Physician-in-training permit (check Arkansas Medical Board for requirements).
• Have graduated from an ACGME accredited Internal Medicine or Family Medicine Program. Residents pending completion may still apply.
• All USMLE/Complex steps successfully completed before beginning fellowship.
• Have competitive USMLE/Complex Board Scores.
• Be a graduate from an LCME accredited medical school or hold a valid ECFMG certificate.
• USMLE/Complex exams must have a passing score within three attempts and all exams must be completed within 7 years.
• Graduation date must be within 10 years.
