Hand Specialist Joins Baptist Health Orthopedics Clinic-Fort Smith

FORT SMITH, Ark. – Kaleb Smithson, MD, an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in conditions of the hand and wrist, recently joined Baptist Health Orthopedics Clinic-Fort Smith.

He will work alongside Jeffrey Evans, MD; John Harp, MD; Eric Heim, MD; Jonathan Tobey, MD; Michael Wolfe, MD; and Lacey Kennon, APRN, at the clinic located at 1506 Dodson Ave.
Dr. Smithson earned a medical degree and completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock. He was inspired to go into health care by his mother who is a physical therapist. Dr. Smithson worked part-time as a physical therapy technician during college and saw how improving a patient’s hand function could dramatically improve their quality of life.

“Treating post-operative orthopedic surgery patients was extremely rewarding and a driving factor for me in pursuing medical school, and eventually, an orthopedic surgery residency,” said Dr. Smithson.

Dr. Smithson enjoys helping patients get back to doing the activities they love. He treats a wide range of injuries and conditions related to the fingers, hand, wrist and elbow including acute sprains, sports injuries, arthritis, tendonitis and nerve compression such as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

“My practice philosophy is to treat each patient with compassion and kindness,” Dr. Smithson said. “My goal is to implement my training and knowledge base to provide my patients with individualized treatment plans – from practical to innovative solutions for a wide range of the simplest to most complex conditions.”

Dr. Smithson is a Greenbrier native. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with this family outdoors, hiking, grilling, fishing, and playing sports with his two daughters.
