MALVERN, Ark. – Baptist Health Medical Center-Hot Spring County (BHMC-HSC) held a ribbon cutting for the newly updated Sleep Center on Monday, Sept. 15, at 10 a.m. in the Sleep Center.
The BHMC-HSC Foundation generously provided $100,000 toward equipment and renovations making the Sleep Center possible.
“We are so grateful for Baptist Health and the BHMC-HSC Foundation for making this day possible,” said Sheila Williams, vice-president and administrator of BHMC-HSC. “The new improved area of service for our residents of Hot Spring County is yet another in the long list of improvements we’ve been fortunate to make since becoming a part of the Baptist Health system.”
The BHMC-HSC Foundation was recognized with a plaque that will hang in the Sleep Center.
Baptist Health Sleep Center at BHMC-HSC provides testing that can lead to diagnosis and treatment for patients who are unable to sleep or are chronically sleepy.
Lack of restful sleep may be from poor sleep habits or an actual sleep disorder. At least 40 million Americans suffer from chronic, long-term sleep disorders each year, and an additional 20 million experience occasional sleeping problems. These disorders and the resulting sleep deprivation interfere with work, driving and social activities, as well as causing problems with normal functioning of the brain, heart and other body systems. Doctors have described more than 70 sleep disorders, most of which can be managed effectively once they are correctly diagnosed.
The most common sleep disorders include insomnia, sleep apnea, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy.
