VAN BUREN, Ark. – The Baptist Health-Van Buren Auxiliary recently awarded scholarships to five high school seniors from Crawford County who are interested in pursuing careers in health care. The following students were each gifted $500 to go toward their education:
- Lloyd Leon Brothers, IV, of Van Buren High School plans to attend Central Baptist College to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and later become a certified registered nurse anesthetist. Brothers is active in athletics at his school, as well as at the Van Buren Boys and Girls Club.
- Olivia Battles, of Alma High School plans to attend Arkansas Tech University and major in Biology. Her goal is to go on to dental school to become a dentist. Battles actively volunteers in her community and has spearheaded several service projects including holiday food drives for students and care kits for foster families.
- Owen Chenoweth, of Van Buren High School plans to attend the University of Central Arkansas and major in Biology. Chenoweth has dreams of becoming a physical therapist or physician. Because of mission trips to Honduras, Chenoweth has a desire to provide medical care there one day.
- Saylor Wilkinson, of Van Buren High School plans to attend the University of Tulsa to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Wilkinson says that because of her own personal experience with cancer, she’d like to become a pediatric oncology nurse
- Hannah McNeese, of Cedarville High School plans to attend the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and later further her education to become a nurse practitioner.
The scholarships were made possible thanks to fundraisers such as bake sales and silent auctions organized by members of the Baptist Health-Van Buren Auxiliary throughout the year.
